We are looking for a full-time Yard Service Technician for our San Mateo location. The ideal candidate will have mechanical aptitude, good organizational skills, and the ability to multitask. We’re most interested in someone who can excel as part of a team, is passionate about helping customers, and is eager to learn.

Essential job duties and responsibilities include:

  • Instruct customers on equipment use, operation, shutdown, and safety requirements and  procedures.
  • Load and unload equipment for customers
  • Clean and service equipment to ensure equipment is safe, meets the manufacturers operation standards, and can be considered “Ready To Rent”.
  • Maintain and organize the yard and its work areas, including but not limited to, proper tool  placement, spill containment and removal, slip trip and fall hazard elimination, and preservation of clean floor and/or surface conditions
  • Inspect, maintain, properly store, and refuel all propane gas cylinders as needed
  • Assist with the pick up and delivery of product as needed
  • Assist in the training of new yard service technicians, and advise as needed
  • Assist sales, parts, service, and delivery personnel as necessary

Work conditions and physical requirements

  • Must be age 21 or older
  • Must have valid CA driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • Must have high school diploma or equivalen
  • This work is physically demanding and will require a considerable degree of physical strength and stamina. Physical requirements include:
  • Being able to stand for long periods of time
  • Working indoors and in general warehouse conditions, and outside under varying weather conditions without heat or air conditioning
  • This position requires frequent lifting and a significant degree of walking, bending, and transporting objects of various weights and dimensions.
  • Job functions may expose employee to chemicals, including but not limited to, gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, propane gas, cleaning solvents, and aerosol paints and cleaners. Due to the physical nature of these chemicals, a sense of smell is required.

Compensation and benefits

As the primary point of contact for our customers, the Rental Coordinator’s main objective is to assist current and prospective customers with their equipment rental needs while providing top-notch customer service experience. What you’ll do

  • Greet and answer phone calls from customers promptly and assist in identifying their rental needs.
  • Administer, maintain, and manage all rental contracts, files, reservations, and related documents.
  • Ensure timely closure and completion of contracts upon the return of customers’ equipment.
  • Inspect and document the condition of returned equipment and accessories.
  • Record and communicate any damage to returned equipment, advising customers of applicable costs.
  • Load and unload equipment and accessories from customers’ vehicles as needed.
  • Schedule deliveries, pickups, and transportation of equipment, providing drivers with detailed logistical requirements.
  • Collaborate with accounting staff daily to resolve customer contract and payment issues.
  • Notify outside sales staff of potential projects or customer leads that may require a sales call.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or necessary repairs to the service shop.
  • Maintain and organize the showroom and counter area.
  • Adhere to all government and company safety policies, procedures, and regulations, including reporting any unsafe equipment, incidents, conditions, or violations.
  • Perform customer service duties while wearing all required safety equipment.
  • Provide support to the shop, yard, parts, service, and delivery teams as needed.

To stand out you’ll need to

  • Possess a valid California driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Bring 1+ years of customer service experience, preferably in the equipment rental or construction industry.
  • Demonstrate fluency in English, spoken and written.
  • Excel at prioritizing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be physically capable of frequently lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and climbing.
  • Have a keen sense of smell, essential for safely working with various chemicals, including gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, propane gas, cleaning solvents, and aerosol paints and cleaners.
